Senior Lawyer
We are seeking a technically excellent lawyer at Associate to Senior Associate level to take carriage of a broad property and commercial practice and grow with the firm. This is a genuine career-progression role: for the right candidate who performs well over a full business cycle (typically one financial year), there is a clearly contemplated pathway to partnership.
The successful candidate will run their own files with a high degree of autonomy, work directly with the Principal, and play a meaningful role in the firm’s continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include, but not limited to the following:
• Supervise all residential and commercial conveyancing matters from engagement through to settlement.
• Draft, negotiate and advise complex acquisition/disposals such as put and call option deeds and related property transaction structures.
• Act on development work, including off-the-plan sales of proposed lots (residential units/apartments and land), disclosure regimes and settlement programs.
• Advise on and document commercial leases, acting for both landlords and tenants (including agreements for lease, assignments, surrenders and incentive arrangements).
• Advise on general commercial and business law matters, including business sales and acquisitions.
• Conduct and manage litigation and dispute resolution matters, including property and commercial disputes.
• Supervise and mentor junior solicitors and support staff where required.
• Maintain excellent client relationships and deliver clear, commercially focused advice.
Criteria
• Admitted to practice in Queensland (or eligible for admission), holding or able to hold a current practising certificate.
• 3–5 years’ post-admission experience gained at a private, generalist law firm offering a genuine variety of legal services.
• Demonstrated expertise in property law and conveyancing (residential and commercial) — this is non-negotiable — including put and call option deeds and development/off-the-plan work.
• Solid experience in commercial leasing acting for both landlords and tenants.
• Experience in general commercial/business law and in litigation.
• Outstanding technical drafting and advisory skills, with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to manage files autonomously and meet deadlines in a fast-moving transactional practice.
Desirable (Not Essential)
• An interest and willingness to engage in business development and to bring in or generate new work.
• An existing network or following of clients or referrers.
• Mandarin and/or Cantonese language skills, given the firm’s multilingual client base.
What the Firm can offer
• A genuine, structured pathway to partnership for the right candidate, assessed over a full business cycle (typically one financial year).
• Direct mentoring from, and daily access to, the Principal.
• High-quality, varied work across property, commercial and litigation matters.
• A collegiate boutique environment in the heart of the Brisbane CBD.
